Scalebound, a Platinum Games (the people who made Bayonetta 1 & 2, Vanquish, Wonderful 101 and the upcoming Nier: Automata) developed game and Xbox One exclusive, has been officially cancelled according to Eurogamer and IGN.
A representative of Microsoft told IGN that:
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences”
This is after, Eurogamer reports, development was ceased on the game in Autumn after several senior members of the development team were forced to take a month off because of the pressure and that the relationship between Platinum Games and Microsoft soured dramatically.
Scalebound was last seen in August at GamesCom and, I am not going to lie, didn’t look all that great. The typical Platinum style was there, but it was dramatically muted and the combat looked sluggish and generally un-fun. So I am not entirely disappointed that is isn’t going to see the light of day, I just hope that Platinum can use the designs or the engine they have developed and make a brand new game out of the remnants.
