Another week goes by and Konami, yet again, does something weird. This time, despite claiming that they are finished with video-game development, they have just announced a game called Metal Gear Survive.
It is a four player survival game (who’d have thought it with a name like that?) that is…
Set directly after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Survive sees the members of Militaires Sans Frontières not killed in that game’s finale transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they’re forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself.
This game sounds insane and is certainly not what people who like the Metal Gear Solid games want. It makes you wonder who this game is for. Is it for people who are such rabid Metal Gear fans that they would buy anything with that name on it? Survive just seems like such a cynical release from Konami.
Playing devil’s advocate, however, on a mechanical level Metal Gear Solid 5 was lauded so more of that game-play is certainly no bad thing, even if it is against zombies. Plus, it will look amazing thanks to the FOX Engine. And hey, Capcom did it with Residental Evil and were met with some success. Who knows? Maybe it will be amazing. I doubt it, but I am not one to judge a game by its trailer.
