Yesterday was Pokémon’s twentieth anniversary, so The Pokémon Company streamed a ‘Pokémon Direct’ which turned out to basically be like a Nintendo Direct but for announcing and talking about Pokémon products.
They spent 90% of the direct reiterating that it has been 20 years since Pokémon Red and Blue were released in Japan. But right near the end, they finally gave up the good and showed a pseudo-trailer for two new Pokémon games: Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Also, rather excitingly, that both games will be out later this year. There aren’t any concrete details about just what will be in the games, but looking at the trailer I can say with certainty that there will be a Pikachu and…trucks?
According to Kotaku, if you buy the re-releases of Pokémon Blue, Yellow and Red (along with X, Y, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) on the Nintendo 3DS the Pokémon you have caught can be “transferred to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon through Pokémon Bank.” What that actually means or how it will work remains to be seen, but that sounds pretty awesome!
As someone who recently bought a New Nintendo 3DS XL, I am definitely considering buying one of the games when they come out as I haven’t even touched the franchise since I was ten or eleven with Pokémon Ruby. I am interested if I can still find enjoyment from a Pokemon game after thirteen odd years.
Here is the trailer:
